Remembering Those Who’ve Served // John Huet

by Erika Brooks Adickman on May 22, 2015

As we gear up for this Memorial Day weekend, we’re reminded that this holiday symbolizes much more than road trips, sunshine and BBQs.  It’s a time to remember those who sacrificed their lives for our country while serving in the military. John Huet directed the above video which tells the story of Lt. Alex Burtness and his journey to becoming an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Officer for the U.S. Navy. This is one in a series of videos directed by John for Mullen on behalf of JAMRS, a division of the U.S. Department of Defense.

Rehabilitation at Iriszorg // Edo Kars

by Erika Brooks Adickman on May 20, 2015

Edo Kars Iriszorg
Edo Kars had the difficult task of capturing the face of addiction for Iriszorg, a Dutch organization that specializes in rehabilitation. Iriszorg not only treats those dependent on drugs and alcohol, but gambling and internet addictions as well. Their philosophy: “You can give up on drugs… but you can’t give up on people.” What’s so powerful about Edo’s images is that they merely suggest addiction, asking the viewer to consider what’s going on beneath the surface for each of these subjects.
